Our eyes first met as she crested a rise in the hiking trail fifty yards away, moving directly toward me. Even from that distance, we couldn’t look away from each other. With a hint of gray and a style that could only be called regal, she still seemed youthful and fun, a noticeable skip coming to her step as we drew closer. We seemed destined for a movie cliché slow motion sprint and embrace. When we finally met, I dropped to one knee as she bounded into my arms, all nuzzles and kisses, nearly pulling free from her human’s leash.
