Two Poems by Shrishti Trivedi

Haven
The palest fogs in hues of haze alight
on sunshower’d sweeps of rory heather
at rest beneath a songbird's soaring flight
beyond horizons, free of tether.
A glint in green, it beckons: “hither come!
My lap’s a moor, entwined in moss and mirth”
and so she flaps toward the bidding hum
while gazing yonder, on a hearth of worth
On she flies, with her visions now gilded
made blind to those fetters in wait so forged,
snared at last into its bosom wilted,
bearing a cloaked abyss in grime engorged.
No longer shine the rays of the day,
yet she finds sanctuary in the gray.
In Bloom
Unfurling through the distant dawn's dewed veil,
and showered by rays that graze the waking skies,
her wings in splay, her chrysalis still frail,
in search of promised nectar, on she flies.
A sudden whiff, a trail beyond flowers wild,
a beacon rousing senses now aflame.
Her way she weaves with wings in beat, beguiled -
in breath beheld, the fount she's come to claim
Upon a pome beyond its life, she finds
in heady honeyed fetters, bounded feet
her weary withered wings, it smears and binds
and stops the little heart's defiant beat.
In haste now hearken and beware its power -
that which is sweet is often not a flower.
