Turtle's Shell

Hiding from the light,

Curtains are drawn tight,

Speaks in the softest voice,

Only responding when asked.

Shadows feel safe,

Eyes observe ground,

Hope is distant,

Heart beats fast.

But winds change,

One small step,

Then another step,

Forward, not back.

Now eyes lift,

Voice finds its rhythm,

Shell opens slowly,

Sunlight feels right.
